PA INDIAN LAKE — Indian Lake Borough Council adopts resolution restricting wake surfing to waters deeper than 20 feet. The measure passed 3-2-1 on May 13, with Council members Bill Lewis and Greg Dorsch voting for, Veil James and Pam Tadken opposing, and Paul Balint abstaining due to insufficient data; Scott Moore also voted in favor. Police Chief Jerry Bellak stated plainly that he cannot defend the depth restriction in court, as a depth finder cannot be calibrated to withstand judicial scrutiny.
The action followed two hours of public comment questioning the scientific basis for the restriction and its enforceability, with Council member Tadken circulating analysis of the survey data showing approximately 75 percent of respondents reported no shoreline damage. The Council separately approved $122,064.70 in bills and authorized purchases of thin-ice signs and warning lights; the garbage contract bid received no responses and will be readvertised.
